What GPS for car devices mean for car sales

There’s no doubt that the car sales industry has changed significantly over recent years. It was once upon a time regarded as something of a rogue market, where anything goes. Now it is not just regulated, but the techniques that dealerships are tapping into in a bid to increase their sales figures are advanced to say the least.

At the title may have already suggested, one of these techniques involves GPS for car devices. In short, this is one of the key weapons in the arsenal of a car salesman. Car companies are now using these to convince customers that a particular model of car is right for them and through the course of this page we will take a look to see how they are doing this.

The rise of the DIY test drive

As we all know, test drives have been around since the beginning of time. In fact, you would generally struggle to find anyone who has not at least tried a vehicle before parting with their cash. This is something that is preached in not only car showrooms selling new vehicles, but also those dealerships who sell second-hand ones.

For many years, these test drives were only provided when the customer was alongside a salesperson.

Now, courtesy of GPS systems, this isn’t necessarily the case. In other words, as vehicles can be tracked to such specific areas, dealerships are more willing to provide solo test drives. This obviously gives a lot more flexibility to the customer, and encourages them to purchase.

The new “take it home” test drive

Following on from the previous point, some companies have gone even further and even let customers take their vehicles overnight – or for a weekend.

Again, this has only been made possible because of the rise of the GPS tracker for cars. Prior to this, dealerships would have had no intention of going to such lengths – the risk of losing a car was simply too high.

Sure, these risks still exist. However, protected by a GPS tracker, things are suddenly a little easier to manage. Additionally, and this probably won’t come as a surprise, dealerships tend to be quite particular on who they let take vehicles like this.

Salespeople tend to only have the newest vehicles

Sure, there has never been a day when a salesperson was going to be driving around an old car. However, at times some companies could be quite frugal when it came to dishing out the newest models, particularly when demand was high.

The rise of the GPS tracker has mitigated this issue somewhat. Now, all trackers are fitted to demonstration vehicles, and this means that salespersons are given a lot more free reign. They take the vehicles home with them, use them for personal journeys and ultimately, this can give them a little extra knowledge on the vehicle which is crucial when it comes to the point in which they are selling it.
