Where to Live in South Carolina if You’re Not a Beach Person

0

Many people move to the Carolinas or other coastal states to be as near to the beach as they can get, so they can enjoy the sand and ocean as often as possible. However, if you are not a beach person, there are still options for you, especially in South Carolina.

From central South Carolina to western South Carolina, there are plenty of great cities that are not on the coast or too near to the beach. So if you are not a beach person, consider these cities in South Carolina:

Columbia

Columbia is the capital of South Carolina, and the second-largest city in the state. Columbia is located almost exactly in the middle of the state and is the main city of the Midlands Region. This is good news for those who don’t enjoy the beach, since the city is landlocked in the middle of the state.

Columbia is home to the South Carolina State House, Fort Jackson, and the University of South Carolina. There are also plenty of fun things to do in Columbia including taking in a show at Town Theater, visiting the Columbia Museum of Art, and trying the many great restaurants in the city. If this sounds ideal to you, as a non-beach-lover, there are plenty of Columbia houses for sale.

Spartanburg

Spartanburg is located in northwestern South Carolina, in a region known as “The Upstate,” which is basically as far as possible from the beach on the eastern side of the state. It is located almost 100 miles northwest of Columbia.

Spartanburg is home to several colleges and universities, including Converse University, Wofford College, and Spartanburg Community College. Downtown Spartanburg has recently gone through a revitalization, and the city is also home to such corporations as Denny’s and Smith Drug Company. Spartanburg has plenty going for it, and should be a top option for non-beach lovers.

Aiken

Aiken is located in western South Carolina and is one of the largest cities in what is considered the Central Savannah River Area. Aiken is known as a great small town, and an All-American city. So this i a great option for those who want to be away from the beach in a quaint and wholesome town.

Aiken is home to Aiken Technical College and the University of South Carolina at Aiken. Aiken is also known for horse racing, as it hosts the Imperial Cup and the Holiday Cup each year in Steeplechase racing and is home to the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum.

If you want to live in South Carolina but not near the beach or in a beach-adjacent city, there are still plenty of options for you. From the Midlands region to the far western and northwestern regions of the state, there are plenty of great cities to choose from that are far from the beach and the eastern part of the state. Each of these cities has many great attributes that residents love.
