There are certain things you should know if you are planning on visiting Singapore. You should check out our Singapore travel guide by clicking here.

Located just off the southernmost point of Malaysian, the sovereign city-state of Singapore is a realm of varied cultures and influences.

Emancipated from British rule in 1965, Singapore has established itself as one of the most prominent financial centers in the world. That swell of wealth has led to it becoming one of the most opulent and desirable destinations in the region.

But where to begin? Singapore has so much to do and so much to see that booking a trip can seem daunting.

So to help simplify the process, we’ve assembled a brief Singapore Travel GUide, complete with basic travel information and a sampling of popular attractions.

Travel Costs

Southeast Asia is a popular destination for budget-conscious travelers. However, with its thriving economy, Singapore subverts that expectation and can be fairly pricey relative to neighboring Vietnam or Thailand.

Hotel rooms start at around $33 USD per night and go scale upwards from there. Though for budget-conscious travelers, hostels and Airbnb’s offer a cheaper alternative.

Transportation can also be somewhat expensive. An unlimited public transit pass will run you about $7 USD per day. Fortunately, the metro system is at least efficient and most major attractions are within walking distance of a train station, so you do get a good value.

Eating in Singapore

The diverse blend of cultures present in Singapore makes the city a culinary delight. Chinese and Indian food are especially prevalent, though there are street vendors throughout the city offering nearly every cuisine under the sun.

As for Singaporean fare, the place to be is Smith Street. The food stalls here offer an excellent opportunity to sample the local favorite for a few dollars a serving.

As far as table-service restaurants go, prices are roughly on par with any other metropolitan city. A meal at a casual dining restaurant will run you around $15 USD, with prices going up in accordance with how upscale the establishment is.

Things to See and Do

Visitors in Singapore are spoiled for choice for things to do in the city. From upscale shopping to amusement parks and novel attractions, there’s something here for everyone.

A small selection of attractions includes:

Snow City

Singapore is a tropical destination through-and-through, so you’d hardly expect to see a snow flurry anywhere on the island. Unless, of course, you know where to look.

Snow City is an indoor snow center filled with activities for adults and children alike. Guests can marvel at beautiful ice sculptures, ride an ice slide, or have a good old-fashioned snowball fight. It’s the perfect way to beat the heat on a sunny tropical day.

Gardens by the Bay

The Gardens by the Bay make up one of the most beautifully designed green spaces you’ll find anywhere. Filled with vibrant greenery, the gardens are the perfect escape from the bustle of the city.

The main attraction, though, is the iconic Supertree Grove. These iconic, futuristic structures tower above the gardens, and a suspended walkway connecting them grants a one-of-a-kind view.

Orchard Road

If world-class style and designer chic are more your speed, then Orchard Road is the destination for you.

The shopping district boasts a selection of high-end offerings to rival any fashionable district you’d find in the west. And with a litany of entertainment complexes, it’s easy to spend a day-or-three just on Orchard Road.
